Halloween: the Final Chapter was the fourth episode of Season 8 of Roseanne, also the 177th overall series episode. It was written by series' star Roseanne Barr and Lois Bromfield and was directed by Roseanne Barr. It originally aired on ABC-TV on Halloween, October 31, 1995.
On Halloween, Roseanne reigns as "Queen of the Gypsies, consort of wizards and seer of souls." A Ouija board sends a message from "The Dead" that portends an unexpected event: Roseanne goes into labor. She delivers a baby boy, Jerry Garcia Conner.
The Conner clan celebrates Halloween with typical Conner flare. Dan and David entertain trick-or-treaters with help from Bev. Roseanne and Jackie play with the Ouija board, which informs Roseanne that she is going to have her baby N.O.W., seconds before she goes into labor. At the hospital, Roseanne visits her "happy place": memories of Halloween's past. And with a little help from Demerol, she goes on a psychedelic journey which includes the spirit of the recently parted Jerry Garcia, who visits Roseanne with a message of magic, bliss, and spiritual connection to one another. Roseanne gives birth to a baby boy, naming him Jerry Garcia Conner, in honor of the late-great iconic hero.
- The closing credits from this episode involve Roseanne answering questions from the audience after filming. One of the questions regards the fact that Roseanne gave birth to a boy despite being told in a previous episode she was having a girl. Roseanne states that due to her falling pregnant after Roseanne (the character) did and the decision being taken she would have a girl, she decided afterwards that the baby's gender would match whatever she herself had.
- Sara Gilbert who plays Darlene Conner, and Lecy Goranson, who appears on the series as Becky Conner-Healy do not appear in this episode, save some cameo vignettes in archive footage of previous episodes.
