Roseanne is heartbroken when Darlene refuses to drive to Chicago with her. In the hope that she will stay, David asks Darlene to marry him. Roseanne eventually goes to Darlene's Chicago apartment and stays the night, and they have a mother-daughter talk.

Roseanne has had her fill of Bev at the Lunchbox, so Bev agrees to leave, selling her share to Leon, Roseanne's old boss. Elsewhere, Jackie returns to dating by accepting an invite from Fred, a friend of Dan's, in his first appearance in the series.

DJ finds out that David is living with Darlene; also, he tells her he misses her.

Roseanne goes to Chicago to get David, who feels guilty about lying to Dan about living with Darlene. Jackie refuses to accept money from Fred for the baby.

Dan must come to terms with the idea that his father isn't the monster he'd always thought he was.

Fred and Jackie are unsure about getting married and call off the ceremony; then Fred, who had thought Jackie was having an affair with Dan, realizes that was unreasonable and begs her to marry him. The bride breastfeeds her infant at the altar.
