This Old House was the 18th episode of Season 4 of Roseanne, also the 90th overall series episode. Written by Jeff Abugov and Chuck Lorre from an original story by Michael Poryes, the episode was directed by Andrew D. Weyman. It originally aired on ABC in the United States on February 25, 1992.


Roseanne comes down hard on Darlene for running off to Chicago with David, but a trip with Jackie to the house where they grew up in gives her a new perspective on her troubled daughter.


Roseanne discovers that Darlene skipped school to attend a comic book convention in Chicago with David. Burdened with the task with deciding how to punish the disobedient Darlene, Roseanne and sister Jackie return to their vacant childhood home and relive painful memories about their abusive father. 





  • This episode marks the revelation that Roseanne and Jackie's father was physically abusive. 
  • Despite being credited, Natalie West (Crystal Anderson) does not appear.
